BMW ZBF 7er: the luxury concept of the ’90s

In the latest video released by the BMW Group Classic, the Germans present, for the first time, a concept of the ’90s that not many people knew about. His name is ZBF 7er.

The “Inside BMW Group Classic” series gives us the opportunity to take a look at the Bavarian carmaker’s past and to admire concepts we didn’t even know existed. A good example is the star of the latest episode: BMW ZBF 7er.

This was a design study conducted in the mid-1990s by a team that included Joji Nagashima. A very well-known designer, who worked, among others, on the 3 Series of the E36 generation or on the Z3 Roadster.

The ZBF 7er concept, however, was something else entirely. All body panels were handmade in Italy, and the list of unusual elements for that period includes a vertical front grille (very similar to today), retractable door handles and camcorders that replace conventional mirrors.

Even the tires were made by hand, to order, given that the BMW ZBF 7er is equipped with the largest rims that were available at the time (19 inches).

The interior also had a futuristic look.

The rear passengers were pampered, among other things, with laptops built into the backrests.
According to the video, the prototype is functional, but we do not know exactly what engine hides under the hood.
